This five-day course is designed for students from a wide range of backgrounds and interests and is not geared solely to management system auditors or those with prior audit experience. In fact, to date, about half of the participants come from sectors such as consulting, compliance, NGOs, labor, government, and academia. The intention of the course is to train participants in:
- The background of the SA8000 standard
- Interpretation of SA8000 elements to promote reliable auditing and understanding of the standard
- Facilitation, implementation and maintenance of the standard going forward
The course provides good insight to auditors on the parameters of acceptable performance, concentrating on objective evidence and information gathering that can differ substantially from the ISO and related system audits in operation today. It includes interactive exercises for students to develop action plans, and "role-play" situations which require team involvement in case study scenarios. The class concludes with a two-hour examination to ensure that each student has absorbed the critical teaching points successfully.
Students who pass the course will be granted a Certificate of Completion by SAI , but are not automatically certified as Social Accountability System Auditors. They will, however, be qualified to apply for this audit grade through SAI . Application forms and additional information are available from SAI ’s New York office. For further information and registration informaiton for this course please visit the Social Accountablity International website.
