13th World Forestry Congress to be held in Argentina

Held every five years, the 13th World Forestry Congress will take place in Argentina in October of 2009. The Congress serves as a forum for governments, universities, civil society and the private sector to exchange views and experiences and to formulate recommendations to be implemented at the national, regional and global levels. The Congress also provides an opportunity to present an overview of the state of forests and forestry in order to discern trends, adapt policies and raise awareness among decision and policy makers, the public and other stakeholders.  The Congress will cover seven main themes which will be presented through a wide variety of mediums over the eight day gathering.  The seven major themes are:

  • Forests and Biodiversity
  • Producing for Development
  • Forests in the Service of People
  • Caring for our Forests
  • Development Opportunities
  • Organizing Forest Development
  • People and Forests in Harmony
