STDF Workshop "Using Economic Analysis to Inform and Enhance SPS Decision Making" in Geneva, 30 October 2009
The Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) will hold a workshop on the use of economic analysis to inform decision-making in the area of food safety, animal and plant health (sanitary and phytosanitary measures or SPS ) in Geneva on 30 October 2009. The purpose of this workshop is to share experiences from countries that have used economic analysis to support SPS decision-making. The aim is to demonstrate how economic analysis can generate information that is valuable to inform SPS decision-making processes and guide the allocation of resources. In doing so, the workshop will illustrate why it makes economic sense to invest in improvements to SPS systems and capacity, which will help to garner high-level support for SPS capacity building, including the allocation of the resources required.
Given the relevance of this workshop theme to the objectives of the TSPN and its membership the Secretariat is currently exploring opportunities on how the TSPN can contribute to this workshop.
Some members of the TSPN will be invited to contribute to and participate in the workshop. For further information, please contact the STDF Secretariat.
Additional information about the workshop and a draft programme is available on the STDF website
