The Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF) is a joint initiative in capacity building and technical cooperation aimed at raising awareness, enhancing coordination and mobilizing resources in the area of food safety, animal and plant health (known as sanitary and phytosanitary or SPS ) standards.

The STDF provides a forum for partners, donors and beneficiaries to enhance coordination and share information on SPS -related technical cooperation activities at a global, regional and national level.  The STDF is an essential part of the Aid for Trade Initiative and complements the Enhanced Integrated Framework for Trade-Related Technical Assistance to Least Developed Countries (EIF).

The STDF offers grant financing for project development and implementation.

·         Grants up to US$30,000 aim to bridge the gap between the identification of needs and their articulation into sound and sustainable projects.  Efforts are made to mobilize donor funds for the resulting project.

·         Financing up to US$600,000 is available for projects that enhance capacity to meet international SPS requirements as a means to gain or maintain market access, and/or better protect human, animal and plant health against disease and pest hazards related to cross-border trade.

Detailed information on the STDF – including its mandate, partners, coordination activities, funding eligibility and criteria, and completed and ongoing projects – is available on the STDF website.
