Agricultural rehabilitation and sustainable land management

The project has a subcomponent on Pest Management. Consistent with the Project’s Pest Management Plan, producer organizations would receive training courses in integrated pest management and safe handling of pesticides. Training activities would focus on (a) promoting integrated pest management, (b) training producer organizations in integrated pest management with public awareness programs and integrated pest management networks, and (c) managing pesticides safely (transport, storage, handling, distribution, destruction of packing materials, application, poisoning, protective gear, and public awareness). By the end of the Project it is expected that (i) 50 phytosanitary inspectors, employees from provincial agriculture and livestock departments, and service providers would have been trained as trainers and (ii) 1,000 farmers would have been trained in integrated pest management. The GEF would support the producer organizations’ access to information and publications, and the remaining activities would be funded by the IDA.
