Promoting forestry certification in Mexico

As part of its Environmental management practices, the Community Forestry Project II would support performance-based certification of production forests by independent third-party agencies (such as FSC ) in communities / ejidos where appropriate. FSC certification provides assurance of social and environmental sustainability. It i s recognized that not all communities attended will have the resources necessary to seek independent certification. However, the project would begin a process of improvements in community management that is substantially consistent with the Bank's forest policy (OPBP 4.36).
