Increasing smallholder incomes in horticulture, nuts, feed crops, and animal feeds

Objective: The EMPRENDA Alliance (TechnoSeve, ACDI/VOCA, & CLUSA, IITA ) will increase per capita rural family incomes and promote productive asset accumulation in the Beira and Nacala corridors. To achieve these goals, the strategy is to create and strengthen sustainable, competitive rural enterprises and farmer associations operating in the three value chains where smallholders have the greatest potential to increase their incomes: • High value horticulture - fruit, vegetables, and floriculture • Confectionary nuts - cashews, groundnuts, and macadamias • Field crops / animal feeds - oilseeds, legumes, and cereals Results: In the second half of 2006, EMPRENDA partners have generated over $7.5 million in sales.
