Expansion of Southern Highlands Agricultural Marketing and Business Acceleration Project

Objective: Increase the capacity of KILICAFE, Tanzania's most sucessful farmer-owned coffee enterprise, by expanding the placement of central pulperies, increasing services available to farmers, implementing crop diversification activity, and replicating the success of KILICAFE with other firms. Results: KILICAFE sales revenues for the 2006/07 season will exceed US$3 million, the highest sales in KILICAFE’s history. In the past quarter, KILICAFE farmer groups also installed 25 central pulperies. KILICAFE has increased farmer business group membership to represent over 10,000 smallholder coffee farmers, who received comprehensive training on financial best practices during the quarter.
