Building a globally competitive cashew industry

Objective: Create a competitive cashew industry in Tanzania. The project will improve raw nut production and marketing, establish viable, value-adding processors, and ensure an appropriate policy environment. Results: TechnoServe facilitated a fiscal memorandum of understanding between the processors and the Tanzanian government resulting in existing processors increasing output 80% in 2006. Processor-farmer outgrowing models have been developed to improve access to farmer inputs.
