Accelerating the growth of sustainable agriculture production systems
Agriculture is vital to Afghanistan's economy. Once a vibrant source of food and income, the country's agricultural economy has been devastated by years of war and drought. Chemonics works to change this by building on the success of the Rebuilding Agricultural Markets program, which added more than $500 million in value to agricultural products. The project will continue to make food more secure, create jobs, boost productivity, and ensure that the country's agricultural products are competitive. The Accelerating Sustainable Agriculture Program will also provide economic opportunities for rural Afghans and build the capacity of the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation to support a private sector-led, market-driven economic growth strategy.
