Supporting agricultural trade in East and Southern Africa

In East and Southern Africa the Regional Agricultural Trade Expansion Support (RATES) project works to enhance food security by supporting agricultural trade initiatives to increase trade within the region and expand regional trade with the rest of the world. Our two-pronged approach focuses on market promotion and product enhancement, while working with regional organizations to improve trade policy. The project is private sector driven, and helps boost the ability of industry associations and trade-flow leaders to promote their products through exhibitions, trade fairs, and direct business relationships. Since project initiation, regional trade in the four commodity lines targeted increased by 15 percent, and private sector contributions to project activities nearly tripled.
