Capacity building on organic agriculture (OA) as a market development strategy for small-scale growers

Project: OA  in Montenegro: Concerted support for small-scale growers in OA

In place since July 2009, the overall expected result is to support rural development through strengthening the institutional framework and capacity building for OA, in particular the national certification/extension systems. The specific outputs of the project are:

  • Strengthening of certification system, human resource and extension workers capacities ;
  • Producers capacity and skills in OA of selected organic grower’s associations strengthened;
  • Formulate and implement market strategy to raise awareness of and promote OA products;
  • Plan of action for OA development in the country produced.

 

Project: UNJP/Bol/044/SPA “The Integration of indigenous Andean producers into new national and international value chains (MDGF-2093)”   

This is a Joint Programme with UNIDO , WFP, UNICEF, UNDP and ILO, and FAO as the lead agency. The overall objective is to strengthen the local and national capacity to manage policies and programmes for rural territorial development through market linkages to international and national organic value chains. The specific FAO expected outputs of the project are:

  • Strengthening of capacity of National coordination institution on organic agriculture;
  • Capacity of  5000 producers to increase OA enhanced through technical assistance technology transfer;
  • Capacity of 2000 producers to process organic products enhanced;
  • Market linkages through technical support enabled.

Project:  UNJP/PER/048/SPA “Inclusive creative industries: an innovative tool for alleviating poverty in Peru (MDGF-2081)

This is a Joint Programme with UNIDO , UNDP, ILO, UNESCO, UNWTO, and FAO as the lead agency. The project objectives are threefold: (i) enabling environment for the development of entrepreneurial activities that promote inclusive business and creative industries; (ii) Enhanced capacity of SMEs for the development of inclusive creative industries including innovation; and (iii) Strengthened quality system through valuing cultural identity and improving working conditions. Specific FAO expected outputs are:

  • Institutional framework  for the development of small-scale organic enterprises;
  • Organic supply chain and market linkages enhanced
  • Inclusive quality systems for organic sector reinforced through technical assistance
