Increasing rural incomes in El Salvador
El Salvador Agricultural Diversification Program's mission is to increase rural incomes by improving productivity and sales for our clients in a way that is sustainable; expand local sales and export market opportunities, increase trade and investment, expand economic diversification, and promote value-added production and private investment in rural areas. In the area of horticulture the project focus is on the development and promotion of market-led programs for clients that increase area under cultivation and sales of fresh products. In the area of processing the project focus is on food safety protocols and sanitary and phytosanitary measures ( SPS ) in addition to improving processing plant efficiencies, volumes and sales. For both fresh and processing clients attention will be given to those exporters and programs that are considered to be of high priority under CAFTA. A market driven approach in the area of speciality coffee will be taken to strengthen the capacity of Salvadoran coffee producers and organizations to significantly increase their export sales, particularly in specialty coffee. In working with project counterparts such as the Ministries of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources and Health and selected NGO’s in the areas of SPS , the project will focus on technology transfer and training in marketing analysis and linkages, technology adaptation, food safety and business development.
