Promoting sustainable management of permanent forests through certification and long-term market access
The objective of the project is to improve the sustainable management of permanent forests at the level of small and medium scaled forest operations through planning and certification activities and through support for long-term market access. The project comprises Phase I (preliminary stage) and Phase II. Major results and concerning indicators are:
• The SME related service provider’s profile of the FSC National Initiative in Yaoundé is described and implemented (Indicator: Technical reports on different steps are available)
• Assist the development of a national and a draft international modular certification standard (Indicator: National standard available until December 2007, draft international standard available until February 2009)
• In December 2008 at least 3 of the concerning SME are certified or in an advanced process of application of the modular certification approach (Indicator: Report with maps, database, partners for certification and sustainable exploitation)
• Support SME for the establishment of long-term market access (Indicators: Round Tables organised, business model available)
