Social Accountability 8000

SAI SA 8000

Social Accountability International (SAI) is a non-governmental, non-profit multi-stakeholder organization whose mission is to advance the human rights of workers by promoting decent work conditions, labor rights, and corporate social responsibility through voluntary standards. SAI established one of the world's preeminent social standards- SA8000- a recognized benchmark among the voluntary codes and standards initiatives that companies and factories measure their performance. The normative elements of this standard are based on national law, international human rights norms, and the conventions of the ILO .

SA8000 is a voluntary auditable standard for third-party certification, setting out the requirements to be met by employers in the workplace. The elements include workers’ rights, workplace conditions, health and safety and management systems. Social Accountability Accreditation Services (SAAS) accredits and monitors Certification Bodies to perform SA8000 audits in workplaces around the world.

SA8000 certification covers over 2000 facilities in 64 countries, across 66 industries, and over 1.1 million employees.
