FairWild Standard

FairWild

Established in 2008, the FairWild Foundation promotes the sustainable use of wild-collected ingredients - for food, cosmetics, well-being and medicinal products- with a fair deal for all those involved throughout the supply chain. The FairWild Foundation promotes the FairWild Standard and certification system for the sustainable management and collection of wild plants. Use of the FairWild Standard helps support efforts to ensure plants are managed, harvested and traded in a way that maintains populations in the wild and benefits rural producers.

The current FairWild Standard was developed through a combination of an original FairWild Standard dealing with social aspects and the International Standard for Sustainable Wild Collection (ISSC-MAP) dealing with ecological aspects.

The FairWild Standards applies to:

  • Products collected from the wild (e.g. medicinal and aromatic plants, berries, wild fruits, nuts and seeds, mushrooms, honey)
  • Raw materials for finished products (e.g. essential and fatty oils)
  • Products containing FairWild ingredients
